Nya Varvet for beginners
The history behind Nya Varvet goes back to the second half of the 17th century, a time of war and conflict that meant Gothenburg needed a harbour close enough to the sea. Nya Varvet has a long history, and as far Gothenburg is concerned, it is of unparalleled importance. Its most recent chapter began in the late 1980s, when the military moved out and it was time for Nya Varvet to become a civilian harbour.
Really Old and Really New
You’ll find Nya Varvet just after Kungsten, with the rocky hills and forest behind you and the water as a natural border in the opposite direction. Up here you’ll feel like you’re a million miles from Gothenburg. There’s no noise and the air feels different – fresher. Yet all you need to do is look over your shoulder for the Älvsborg Bridge to remind you that the city centre is no more than ten minutes away.
Buildings dating from the 1700s to the 1900s nestle well together at Nya Varvet, which is now home to some 70 different businesses.
Nya Varvet Studios
Nya Varvet Studios represent excellent alternative accommodation for long or short stays in Gothenburg. Each studio is about 25 m2 and equipped with a shower room, kitchenette, TV, and free Internet connection. You’ll also have access to a larger kitchen with dining area, plus a living area and laundry room.
Bed linen and towels are included in the price, as is room cleaning and new towels once a week, plus cleaning after you leave. The studios and other areas are non-smoking and unfortunately pets are not allowed. It goes without saying that parking is free.
Unique and Comfortable Studio Apartments
Our rooms are located in several historic buildings. Since every building is unique the interior and equipment varies slightly.
